A revolt against the military dictatorship of Portugal breaks out at Porto.

The February 1927 Revolt, sometimes also referred to as the February 1927 Revolution, was a military rebellion that took place between February 3 and 9, 1927, centered in Porto, the city where the insurgents' command center was installed and fought the main challenges. The revolt, led by Adalberto Gastão de Sousa Dias, ended with the surrender and arrest of the rebels and resulted in about 80 deaths and 360 injuries in Porto and more than 70 deaths and 400 injuries in Lisbon. It was the first consequent attempt to overthrow the Military Dictatorship that was then consolidated in Portugal following the 28 May 1926 coup d'état, which occurred nine months earlier, initiating a set of insurrectionary movements that became known as the Reviralhism.

The Ditadura Nacional is the name given to the regime that governed Portugal from the end of the First Portuguese Republic with the 28 May 1926 coup d'état, until the adoption of a new constitution in 1933 that ushered in the so-called Estado Novo. The term Ditadura Militar is also used by some to describe the first stages of the dictatorship, while other authors use for the entire period.

Porto, also known in English as Oporto, is the second largest city in Portugal, after Lisbon. It is the capital of the Porto District and one of the Iberian Peninsula's major urban areas. Porto city proper, which is the entire municipality of Porto, is small compared to its metropolitan area, with an estimated population of just 252,687 people in a municipality with only 41.42 km² (16 sq mi). Porto's urban area has around 1.4 million people,(2025) in an area of 2,395 km² (925 sq mi), making it the second-largest urban area in Portugal. while the Porto metro area surpasses 1.8 million people. It is recognized as a global city with a Gamma + rating from the Globalization and World Cities Research Network.
