The first session of the United Nations General Assembly convened at the Methodist Central Hall in London with representatives from 51 member states.

The United Nations General Assembly is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations (UN), serving as its main deliberative, policymaking, and representative organ. Currently in its 79th session, its powers, composition, functions, and procedures are set out in Chapter IV of the United Nations Charter.

The Methodist Central Hall is a multi-purpose venue in the City of Westminster, serving primarily as a Methodist church and a conference centre. The building also houses an art gallery, a restaurant, and office spaces. It contains 22 conference, meeting and seminar rooms, the largest being the Great Hall, which seats 2,300. Central Hall also acts as an important spiritual and sacred place for Methodists.

The United Nations comprise 193 sovereign states and the world's largest intergovernmental organization. All members have equal representation in the United Nations General Assembly.
